The trick is lossy compression at a sensible quality level. JPEG compression discards fine detail the eye barely notices, so a photo saved at 70–80% quality usually looks identical on screen while being 50–80% smaller. Good starting points:
- Websites and blogs: 60–75% quality.
- Email and messaging apps: 50–70% quality.
- Portfolios and printing: 85–95% quality.
