Tips for sharp social images

A few habits help your images look their best everywhere:

  • Start with an image at least as large as the target size to avoid blurry upscaling.
  • Keep text and faces away from the edges — platforms crop previews and overlay buttons.
  • Use PNG for graphics with text and JPG for photos.
  • For YouTube banners, keep the important content inside the central 1546×423 safe area.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between Fill and Fit?

Fill scales the image to cover the whole frame and crops whatever overflows the edges. Fit scales it to sit entirely inside the frame and fills the empty space with your background color.

Will resizing reduce image quality?

Making images smaller keeps them sharp. Enlarging a small image beyond its original size can look soft, so start with the highest-resolution version you have.

Are these sizes up to date?

They’re the commonly recommended upload sizes at the time of writing. Platforms tweak their layouts from time to time, but these dimensions remain safe, high-quality choices.
